FAQs about the MARS Digital Repository

Who can submit to the MARS Digital Repository?

Any student, faculty, or staff member with an active NetID can submit their scholarship to MARS using our online submission process. If you are affiliated with George Mason University, but do not currently have an active gmu.edu address and would like to inquire about submitting work, please email digicoll@gmu.edu.

What kind of work can I submit to MARS?

MARS accepts a wide range of scholarship from the George Mason University community, such as articles, presentations, posters, reports, and creative work. You must have the right or permission to distribute your work in an open-access institutional repository. MARS can also provide digital infrastructure for new scholarship, such as an oral history series. Please reach out to digicoll@gmu.edu to learn more about our services and discuss your project needs.

If you wish to include tabular data (CSV, Excel, R, SPSS, Stata, etc.), GIS files, software code, or other datasets, please visit MARS Dataverse repository or see this page for more details. For questions about data submissions, please email Data & Digital Scholarship Services at datahelp@gmu.edu or review the Data Deposit Checklist.

I am a graduate student. Should I submit my thesis or dissertation directly to MARS?

For most graduate students, the answer is no. You will go through the submission process with University Dissertation & Thesis Services (UDTS), and your thesis or dissertation will be automatically added to MARS following submission to ProQuest. For students of programs that do not go through UDTS, such as Forensic Science projects, please do submit directly to MARS upon completion. If you have questions about the thesis or dissertation submission process, please contact UDTS at udts@gmu.edu.

Where can I submit feedback about the new website?

We welcome your feedback! Please send an email to digicoll@gmu.edu.
